Reading is one of the most important skills in our lives, both in school and in the years that follow, but unfortunately it is also one of the most neglected. A devastating 66% of US students read below grade level. However, SOAR High is confident that these statistics can improve.

 

WHY ARE OUR KIDS READING BELOW GRADE LEVEL?

 

Since the 1960s, public school systems in the US have been following a flawed philosophy of reading which encourages students to guess the words on a page rather than teaching them to properly sound the words out. This inefficient method only serves to create more reading anxiety, which in turn further prevents academic growth.
